Court PC's online database includes archived docket records for over 80% of
the 3,500,000 plus civil and domestic cases in our database.
With a Court PC login and password, you can retrieve a case summary, party and
appearance records, and all docket entries for virtually any case in our database
AT NO CHARGE.
Our database of docket records permits researchers to retrieve not only the basic
case information for purged CV and FA cases, but also to see a history of all filings
in those cases. Docket information can assist users in reconstructing a picture
of what transpired in any case. It shows the history of motions filed and judicial
decisions entered, and helps illustrate how extensively a case was litigated. A
variety of pre-judgment remedies and post-judgment activities are also recorded
in the dockets. Docket data has been used for litigation support, investigations,
title searches, etc.
The CT Judicial Branch purges computer case and docket records from their online
database on an ongoing basis as they become eligible, which dramatically limits
the information available through their website. That's because the Judicial Branch
applies CT Practice Book sec. 7-10 et seq. (governing the retention of physical
paper files) to its computerized records as well as paper files. Cases in which
a judgment has been entered may be retained in the computer record for up to ten
years. However, the vast majority of civil cases (about 90%) are disposed not by
judgments, but by withdrawals or dismissals, and these cases are eligible to be
purged less than one year after the disposition.
So, if you're looking for older case information on the Judicial Branch website,
you usually won't find it. That's where Court PC can provide the answers
you need. We've been collecting docket information on civil and domestic cases closed
and purged from 1990 to the present.
Users may also request docket records searches for all rulings by a specific judge
or by a specific motion or filing. These special searches
are not available online and must be ordered by special request via e-mail to Court
PC. There is a minimum charge of $35 for such searches.
